My Favorite Client, Miss.Claire Holiday

To photograph a baby, and capture the moments that are too precious for words is something I enjoy, and take pride in doing. It puts a smile on my face, and hearing the parents reactions is priceless. I truly have a passion for what I do and I hope it shows in my photography.

About a year and a half ago some dear friends of mine asked me to photograph their first child's "First Year" in portraits. You all have seen her pictures. She is plastered all over my Scarlett K Facebook page. Her name, Claire Holiday Decant.

When her mom, and dear friend of mine, came to me and asked me to photograph her child, I was more than ecstatic to do so. I have photographed Claire numerous times, from the time she was a newborn, to her recent 2nd Halloween session, and every where in between. However, in the beginning, the Decants were having a lot of difficulty finding a photographer to give them what they wanted.

Our Miss.Claire was born with a hemangioma on the left side of her face. What started out as resembling a small red mark, has grown into a tumor. Dr's originally said the hemangioma was a cosmetic procedure, and wasnt something that needed medical attention. However, it has grown to a substantially larger size over the course of the last year, and is now beginning to push on her eye, and into her left nostril. Clair's Dr's insisted that this was nothing to be concerned about and was not effecting her breathing or eyesight in anyway. However, Claire's parents begged to differ. After a long and hard fought battle, little Miss. Claire Holiday is getting the surgery she needs to have her hemangioma removed.

Her parents had asked me,"if we wanted you to, would you be able to digitally remove the hemangioma from the final product of the pictures". They explained, that after speaking with many other photographers, all had refused to remove anything from Claire's face, saying it took away from the child. I agreed to do so, without judgement on the parents or questioning their reason. Yet the question still remains in my head though. If the client wants something, who am I, as a photographer, to tell them they cannot have it? My passion involves the entire portrait process: photographing, post processing & client satisfaction. I work hard at obtaining the skills needed to be able to grant the client this.

I gave the Decants what they were looking for with their little Claire Bear, and they were extremely happy, and I in return have gotten pleasure in being a part of their family. I have attached some photos of Claire, to allow you to see the before and after's of this beautiful baby girl. The last set of photos are from Claire's 2011 Halloween shoot. Her last photo shoot with her hemangioma. She will be getting the tumor removed in October. All that will be left is a small scar, which I will be happy to edit, if the Decants so desire!

DURRETT FAMILY SESSION

Let’s meet Eric, Mary, Carson, and Charlie.

Eric and Mary were looking for nice, yet casual family photos. Eric, and their son Carson do not enjoy dressing up, and with an infant, things need to be done in a timely manner.

They decided to go to a standard mall photographer to get their daughters first photos taken with the family. The family posed, the photographer shot their images, and the family was extremely pleased with how they turned out. With the kids starting to get restless and Eric having to leave to work, the results of the quick shoot seemed successful. Unfortunately however, all the images were lost except for a few from the session.

Seeing their frustration on a Facebook post, I decided to contact them, and offer my services to them. Having grown up with Eric, I knew his style, and what he and his family were looking for in their photos. Something that symbolized their casual lifestyle. So after discussing their session and choosing an outdoor location with a rustic, casual feel to it, they were excited to get their photos re-taken.

The afternoon of their shoot, the weather had me a little concerned. Since there were a lot of thunder storms in the area and storm clouds in the sky, I was worried about the storm cutting into our shoot time. At the same time I was excited, because the clouds offered me the perfect lighting I needed. The first few shots were of the family, and quickly we captured the many different creative poses I had in mind. I also wanted to capture the natural interaction with the family. Baby Charlie made us all laugh, showing her mom and dad that she was a natural in front of the camera. The shoot lasted approx. 25 minutes, which was quick and easy, and just perfect for this casual laid back family.

Deposits are required to book a session and are 1/2 the session amount. Deposits are non-refundable and will vary depending on session booked. If you keep your shoot, the deposit is applied as credit towards your session. If you (for whatever reason) cannot make the session and give me 24 hours notice I will reschedule your session.Any cancelation less then 24 hours or no show/no call will result in the deposit being forfeited with no reschedule unless a new deposit is made.You have a 3 month period to reschedule or you will lose the deposit. Different Styles to Photography.....

 You're thinking about investing your hard-earned money in quality photography. Most likely you want to formally remember a big, once-in-a-lifetime special occasion like a wedding, graduation or birth. Or maybe it's for your annual family portrait. If you're gong to take the time to hire a Professional Photographer (not an amateur with a fancy camera) to ensure the important moment is captured properly and beautifully, then do it right. There are different styles of photography - so here are a few that will help you articulate exactly what you are looking for. Start here for an understanding of some of the most popular styles:


1. PHOTOJOURNALISTIC OR LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE
The Lifestyle or Photojournalistic style is a story telling style of wedding/portrait photography that involves minimal intrusion on the part of the photographer. A photojournalistic wedding photographer allows all of the moments to unfold around them, while they simply use their creative eye to capture and interpret those moments through their photography. Lifestyle Portrait Photography works very similarly to bring a creative eye to relaxed moments in the life of the client.


2. FINE-ART PHOTOGRAPHY
Fine-art photography involves using artistic angles, creative lighting, unique compositions and advanced post production techniques to create imagery with a much stronger artistic flare. It involves meticulously researching scenes and anticipating moments, and finding unique locations in order to use fine-art techniques to bring a vision to life. Fine-art wedding or portrait photography starts with an image shot with an artistic finish in mind, most likely not a “say cheese” moment. In post production, these images are transformed into fine-art using textures, filters, masks, and other advanced Photoshop techniques to create a visually stunning, emotional image that stands on its own as a piece of high-quality art.


3. FASHION-STYLE PHOTOGRAPHY
Fashion photography is a genre of photography that is focused around displaying clothing and other fashion items- traditionally for commercial purposes. This style of photography tends to be popular in large metropolitan areas. However, there are several unique photography techniques that are employed in fashion photography which I sometimes borrow in my photography style. These techniques include the usage of unique lighting, fashion-esque poses and expressions, along with dramatic or super-clean backgrounds and special post-processing techniques. Typically, the fashion influenced style of wedding photography will only be used at request of the bride and groom during the engagement shoot or the day-after shoot, as it does require some extensive photographer involvement, planning and forethought. Fashion Portraiture is gaining popularity with high school senior girls who want to be on the cutting edge of style.


4. TRADITIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Traditional wedding/portrait photography typically has quite a bit of photographer involvement. The wedding photographer is seen almost as a type of coordinator - assisting in guiding and directing the wedding. While I am not a traditional wedding photographer, I do assist in directing and posing people for group formals when necessary. However, in general, my philosophy is to capture the real moments and to stay away from formal "poses" as much as possible. In portraits, this means I don't pose you against styrofoam pillars, a fake Photo Backdrop that looks like a forest or anything that looks like Schmolan Mills, Schmears, or Schmal-Mart.


5. TRASH THE DRESS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
“Trash the dress, fearless bridal, and rock the frock” are all terms used to refer to the style of photography that contrasts elegant bridal clothing with an environment that is completely out of place. I LOVE this style!!!... I typically shoot this type of photography with a fashion and fine-art style of photography. Popular locations for these sessions are lakes, fields, and urban settings like abandoned buildings and warehouses, but I can also get creative with a location that fits your personality or expresses your artistic side. If relieving post-wedding tension, or getting amazing shots from that dress that you won't ever wear again by having a trash the dress photography session is what you are looking for, I would be very happy to oblige you. This also goes for High school Seniors in my "Rock the Dress" sessions using your old Prom and Homecoming dresses. By the way, this session doesn't have to be just on the Day-After. Anytime after the wedding works great! Even 6 months later or on your first anniversary!
